Welcome to the James Exchange, I am Nancy Gill your host. In today’s episode, I had a conversation with the newly hired Scottsville town clerk, Melodye Courter. A few tidbits:In Tuesday’s Scottsville special election, Aileen Morse garnered 115 votes. A little side note, we haven’t had participation on this level since 2008. I will surmise that the uptick is from the General Assembly moving all Virginia elections to November. Scottsville residents have their own ballot. Alex Bessette failed to get his name on the ballot, so there were 90+ write-in votes. According to the Albemarle County election office, they have to be counted by Tuesday. When I know if Councilor Bessette prevailed in keeping his seat, I will let you know. On Saturday, November 18 starting at 10:00 am, HEARR is hosting their Fourth Annual Take-a-Hike day. We kick off on the SCAN Land. And, on Sunday, November 19 at 2:00, we continue the hiking at Simpson Park in Esmont. Come on out and join us! HEARR collaborates with several or...

Welcome to the James Exchange. I am your host, Nancy Gill. For those 65 or older, it is Medicare Enrollment period which runs through December 7th. With this in mind, I recently sat down with Kimberly and John Flick who filled me in on a lot of things I was not aware of. We discussed Medicare, prescription drug plans, Cancer-Stroke-Heart Attack plans, Dental plans, Long Term Care Plans, and the three different types of life insurance. This episode runs about thirty minutes, but it is filled with information that we can all use. So, settle down and listen to the information and advice the Flicks have to share. Any agent well versed in the varieties of insurance and financial products will be available from any.
This is Nancy Gill with The James Exchange. Today’s episode is with Dr. Casey Kerrigan. She lives right here in the Town of Scottsville. She is a manufacturer, a physician, a researcher, and an engineer. Casey really likes to make shoes! Well, I tell my children and all their friends that, you know, you shouldn't, you don't have to decide. They're all like, what am I going to be when I grow up. You can be a hundred different things when you grow up. I still haven't grown up. I don't know what I'll be next year. I will be back on Thursday with “It's a Wrap”, all things Scottsville Town Council and assorted committees discussed and acted upon during the month of August.
Welcome to the James Exchange. I am Nancy Gill, your host. It is Monday, August 7. This evening the Scottsville Planning Commission will be meeting at 7:00 pm in Council Chambers on the second floor of Victory Hall. Their agenda appears to be light. However, they are in the process of updating the comprehensive plan so discussions may be lengthy. Lincoln Lewis, a University of Virginia PhD candidate in the Constructed Environment was hired as the Community Planning Fellow for the Town. To date he has started implementing the plan by working with the Planning Commission to develop a survey and community engagement schedule. He has been meeting with Planning Commissioners to flesh out the main ideas in Scottsville’s current comprehensive plan and how it intersects with the strategic plan recently adopted by the Town Council. There is a survey for residents, neighbors and visitors to take. It gets to the aspects of economic growth, housing, and revenue sources. The survey is available online at ht...

Greetings all, I am Nancy Gill the host of the James Exchange—a podcast for the exchange of ideas and information! In today’s episode, yes it is true! This is not one of those Scottsville “rumors”. And, if it is circulating as so, then my line “In Scottsville, if it’s a rumor, it must be true” is true. Anyway, I had a conversation with Greg Dorazio of Dorazio Communications on his bringing back the Scottsville Monthly.
