When he saw a recruiting poster on a Baltimore transit bus, Stewart Russell knew who he wanted to be - a Maryland state trooper. He fulfilled his dream and much more during his 35-year career with the Maryland State Police. Beginning as a road trooper, he rose through the ranks until he was Lt. Colonel Stewart Russell, holding the second highest rank in the Department. Upon retirement from the State Police, Lt. Colonel Russell served as Chief of the Forest Heights Police Department. He now works as a police consultant, a volunteer, and has just finished his first book, entitled, "Making A Difference The Right Way." As part of the 100th Anniversary of the Maryland State Police, Lt. Colonel Russell reflects on the good and bad times in his career, the various positions he had, what it was like to go jail while working undercover, and he shares advice for someone considering a law enforcement career today.
