The name Koonce has been synonymous with Campbell Baseball since the 1960 season. The Koonce brothers – Cal, then Charles – helped close Campbell's junior college era and usher in the Fighting Camels' transition to senior college status. Both of the Koonce brothers are enshrined in the Campbell Athletics Hall of Fame. Cal went on to pitch in the big leagues, then returned to his alma mater in the 1980s as head baseball coach. Charles Koonce batted over .400 twice in his collegiate career then went on to a career as an educational leader in the Fayetteville area. In addition, Charles co-founded Mid-South Sports, Inc., a sports promotion group that has aired high school and college football games for decades. In 2016 Charles was presented with the Order of the Longleaf Pine, the highest honor awarded to civilians in North Carolina In the next episode of Tales from the Creek, Fighting Camel baseball standout Charles Koonce talks with Stan Cole about his path to Campbell, the early years of the senior college...

Sixty years ago this summer, John Marshbanks arrived on the Campbell College campus for the fall semester in 1965. By the time he graduated four years later, no one in Campbell Basketball history had scored more points than the 6-foot-8 center from Marietta. Now, more than 55 years since John left Buies Creek, only three players have amassed more points in their career – Chris Clemons, Jonathan Rodriguez and Sam Staggers. It's no surprise that John was inducted into the Campbell Athletics Hall of Fame in 2006. However, John Marshbanks' life has been about much more than basketball. He had a tryout with the ABA's Miami Floridians, but his professional journey took a different turn. Entrepreneur, teacher, coach, lay minister – John has assumed many professional titles in addition to husband, father and granddad. Through the years, he has remained in contact with teammates, classmates and his alma mater. In the next episode of Tales from the Creek, Hall of Fame basketball standout John Marshbanks ta...

Hall of Fame golf coach John Crooks has accomplished so much in his 35-year career at Campbell that it took two Tales from the Creek episodes to share his story. The man who has led Campbell's men's and women's teams to 38 NCAA postseason appearances, 27 conference titles and 162 tournament championships has guided his teams in three different Division I leagues and through an ever-changing landscape of college athletics. In the second of two episodes of Tales from the Creek, Hall of Fame Coach John Crooks talks with Stan Cole about how his job has changed over the years, recalls some of his best players, how his coaching tree has grown and more.
